Fleece Flower Root is also known as  Maltiflower Knotweed Root, Chinese Knotweed Root, and Flowery Knotweed Root and in China it is calledHe Shu Wu

The plant is a native to East Asia and is generally grown along the banks of streams and in valley shrub thickets in China, Japan, Malaysia, etc.

Fleece Flower Root is produced in most parts of China. The root tuber is dug in spring and autumn, preferably from plants 3 – 4 years old, washed clean, sliced and dried in the sun, which is known as raw fleece-flower root.

Traditional uses of Fleece Flower Root:-

Fleece Flower Root is taken internally in the treatment of menstrual and menopausal complaints, constipation in the elderly, swollen lymph glands and high cholesterol levels. It is reportedly effective in reducing high cholesterol levels in the blood.

Externally, it used to treat ringworm, bleeding wounds and sores.

The roots are a tonic for the liver and kidneys, fortifying the blood, strengthening the muscles and preventing premature greying of the hair (according to the Chinese)

As can be seen from our stock photograph on this page, the roots are solid and hard so traditional steeping wil not do to make an infusion. The root should be simmered for around 20 minutes to make a good strong brew and then drunk or left to cool if using topically.
