Clove Leaf essential oil  is derived from the tree, Syzgium aromaticum. It is a slender evergreen tree that grows up to 12 metres in height. At the start of the rainy season, long buds appear. They change colour over time and are beaten by hand from the trees and dried. These are the cloves that are sold commercially. This oil is made from the leaves of the tree, it is slightly less aromatic than that made from the bud and less so than that made from the stems . Clove leaf is the most popular of the three clove oils.
