Cymbopogon giganteus from which Ahibero Essential oil is derived is a species of grass which is a fast growing, tall, aromatic perennial grass growing up to around 2.5 metres in height. It is a tufted loosely arranged , perennial grass with very erect stems which are sometimes stilt-rooted. It is a popular medicinal herb within its native range, which extends from Mauretania to Somalia, over most of East Africa and Madagascar from where this particular oil emanates.  It is commonly harvested from the wild.

From a spiritual point of view, Ahibero is regarded as calming and balancing with a pleasingly sweet aroma, slightly gingery and not at all dissimilar from Rosalina. It isd an antiseptic and insect repellent and is considered a prophylactic with curative properties against fever, yellow fever and jaundice. It is used as a mouthwash.

Ahibero Essential Oil Blends Well With:-

All manner of Citrus oils and Rosewood, Cedar, Lavender, Fir, Peru Balsam.


Apart from its medicinal applications it is used by native populations for all sorts of reasons from thatching huts to weaving baskets. The grass is strong and stringy in consistency which makes it durable and long lasting when dried.


Avoid in glaucoma and with children. Use caution in prostatic hyperplasia and with skin hypersensitivity or damaged skin.
