The Red Cedarwood is a slow-growing, coniferous evergreen, reaching heights of 33 metres or more. The diameter of the trunks can reach over 1.5 metres. It has a reddish heartwood and bears brown cones. It is also known as Red cedar and is from the family Cupressaceae. Like its cousin, Cedarwood Texas, it is not strictly a Cedar but a Juniper.

It deters moths and other insects, and will act as a mild astringent. It is a very powerful antiseptic, fungicidal and antiseborrheic.
