Hibiscus Petals (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis)  are used to add colour and flavour to herbal teas but are  also highly prized by themself as a herbal infusion and, indeed, highly prized in various parts of the world where their use is famous. In Egypt for instance, a warm or cold cordial of hibiscus petals is known as Kharkady and is perhaps one of the most popular of drinks after strong coffee or mint tea.

Medicinal Uses of Hibiscus Petals:-

Hibiscus petals contain flavonoids and proanthocyanidins which are antioxidants and the herb is antipyretic which helps to reduce fever. It is a mild analgesic and used as such to relieve pain and it is spasmolytic which, as the word suggests, limits spasms.

Based on recent laboratory tests, hibiscus petal infusion was found to be useful in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol reduction in the blood. It has shown positive results in reducing bad cholesterol levels (LDL) found in extremely fat diets because, according to scientists, hibiscus may limit the adherence of cholesterol to arterial walls. Regular use of hibiscus petals promotes proper blood circulation and minimises heart disease.

Moreover, researchers believe that the antibacterial property of hibiscus petals may be essential in combating various illnesses like fever, and  cystitis. It is also effective in soothing respiratory tract infections and relieves symptoms in whooping cough and other respiratory ailments.

Hibiscus petal tea is pleasantly tasty and is known to be a good relief for stomach pains and improper food digestion. According to herb users, hibiscus tea promotes good appetite and good health.
