BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON NONI LEAF AS A MEDICINAL HERB:-
Noni Leaf (Morinda citrifolia) is a tree belonging to the same family that the coffee plant belongs to (Rubiaceae). It is a native of Southeast Asia and Australasia, and the species is now cultivated throughout the tropics and very widely naturalised.
it is also known as the Great Morinda, Indian Mulberry, Beach Mulberry and Cheese Fruit Tree.
The smell and taste of the leaves and the fruit is not particularly pleasant.
The fruits are better known in culinary terms perhaps than the medicinal and traditional uses of the leaf.
TRADITIONAL USES OF NONI LEAF AS A MEDICINAL HERB:-
An infusion of the leaves is traditionally used in the treatment of menstrual cramps, arthritis,bowel irregularities, diabetes, liver diseases, wound healing, and urinary tract infections and as an anti-inflammatiory, or for acne reduction, or moisture retention.
In ayurvedic medicine the leaves are used to lower blood cholesterol and lower blood pressure.
An infusion of the leaves is a well known Hawaian aid for adult gingivitis and sore throats whilst topically applied it helps with skin abscesses and boils.
