This Wild White Sage (Salvia apiana) from which the essential oil is distilled, is wild grown using sustainable and ecological harvesting practices in southern California. It grows wild in the perpetually sun drenched high desert up to at around 1.2km altitude. This extremely rare essential oil is distilled in very small quantities. It is sometimes known as Bee Sage or Sacred Sage.

The seed from the plant was collected once in great quantities and used as a main ingredient of Pinole, a staple food of Western Coastal Tribal Native Americans. A tea from theplant was made by some Natives and used after childbirth as a strengthening brew, most notably the leaves rather than the seeds.
